Right now Oscar Isaac is the Internet’s boyfriend, but those kinds of temperamental infatuations don’t last forever, and thank god they don’t. With or without the fangirl halo effect, Isaac can charm the pants off anyone within his wingspan. He’s got the kind of charisma and in-the-moment presence few men on screen so effortlessly embody, and the talent to back it up. While he’s been consistently doing good work and coming up for a while now, 2015 has been the year to break him through. He killed it as the 1982 Yonkers’ Mayor Nick Wasicsko, the lead in the HBO drama Show Me A Hero. He wasn’t so much the ominous, suspenseful creep in Ex Machina as the movie was in and of itself, but he does talk futurism and artificial intelligence with surface fluency in a recent interview and I bet you can’t not watch the whole thing. What you probably haven’t missed, though, is Oscar Isaac stealing the hearts of every Star Wars universe fan (and beyond) in his role as Poe Dameron in The Force Awakens, lasting all of 15 minutes. Poe, a part that could have been played by a floor lamp in a jumpsuit, was even written into the 2017 installment basically because Isaac somehow made him so damned likable in that brief stretch of time. At the moment all eyes are certainly on Isaac, and probably very happily so.
