Legendary Rapper Yaslin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def, formerly the second half of the rap duo Black Star, and all around cool mother fucker, recently announced his retirement from hip hop and acting. Bey, who has been able to build a respectable career as an actor, is now trying his hand at fashion. At the helm of South African streetwear label Unknown Union, Bey plans to take the brand into an african roots themed direction using an ancient South African tribe, Basotho people, as inspiration. Since his early days in hip hop, Bey has managed to consistently set himself apart for his unique personal style and genuine charisma. Working as a creative director seems like a no brainer, especially with his his newfound time away from music and film. But here's to hoping the retirement is short lived. Words by Michael Cherrito
