STREAM: Autolux Returns with Pussy’s Dead on Apple Music

It's been six years since Autolux released their last album, Transit Transit, and it should come as no surprise that an advanced stream of their new record, Pussy's Dead, was released in the same muted tones as their music itself. Hopefully, you either settled on Apple Music as your alternative to Spotify or haven't started your free trial yet because the band is only letting those signed up with the particular service give it a preliminary listen as of now. We probably won't see record signups for Apple Music akin to what happened for TIDAL with the release of Kanye West's The Life of Pablo but, in a perfect world, we would. This new album is one of the best to come out this year and may be Autolux's greatest yet. The people in Autolux have been busy. Gene Edwards (bass/vocals) was busy recording The Heart is a Monster and touring with his first band, the newly reunited post-hardcore outfit Failure. Carla Azar (drummer/vocals) has been Jack White's studio and live drummer since 2012's Blunderbuss and she also found time to act in and contribute music to the 2014 indie film, Frank. As for Eugene Goreshter, it seems like he must've been busy trying to get Edwards and Azar back in the Autolux game. Considering the official release date for Pussy's Dead is April 1, the advanced stream is a nice assurance a new album from the band wasn't just a practical joke. It's here and it's spectacular. For anyone who loves music intent on conjuring an air of mystery a la Radiohead, Portishead, or Blonde Redhead, Autolux is worth checking out if only so you can recommend an eerie sounding guitar band without the word "head" in its name.
